🎥✨ Been experimenting with my IRL rig—basically taking my recording-engineer brain and applying mid-side mic techniques to the video world.
In audio, mid-side is all about capturing a focused “center” while also getting the spacious, environmental sound that brings everything to life. I thought: why not do the same for video?
The iPhone handles the mid—clean, direct, front-facing footage. The Insta360 captures the side—the whole environment, all the context, all the unexpected moments that make IRL so real.
The idea is to tell a fuller story. Instead of choosing between a tight shot or a wide shot, why not have both? Show what you see and where you are. It gives viewers a sense of really being there with you.
I’m just experimenting right now, and this rig will definitely keep changing as I figure out what works and what doesn’t. Hopefully I’ll find a way to perfect it a little bit better over time.
Still tweaking the setup (especially the light 😅), but that’s the fun part. This is just my attempt at bringing recording studio logic into real-world filming. Always learning, always hacking, always creating.
