I find it troubling and deeply concerning that some conservative figures, influencers, or supporters are attacking people simply for acknowledging the obvious irony surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death. I want to be absolutely clear: I am not mocking Charlie Kirk. His death was a tragedy — a devastating loss of a human life — just as tragic as the many lives lost every day in my own community, especially among minorities.
In my neighborhood, many of the people who end up victims of gun violence have also grown up in an environment where guns are normalized or even embraced — a cycle that too often ends in tragedy. While Charlie Kirk did not visibly carry a gun in his daily life, he did consistently advocate for expansive gun rights across America. He even stated publicly that “unfortunately, some gun deaths are a necessary cost to protect our Second Amendment rights” (his words).
That is a fact. And that is the irony — a tragic, sobering irony, not a cause for celebration. Pointing it out should not be grounds for personal attacks.
